Halton Hills

I haven’t been able to post for awhile due to health reasons. And road trips are off for now due to finances.

However, for my birthday weekend, June 24 – 28, I visited Acton and my good friends Hugh and Kathy. Finally got to meet their new dog Kali. Hugh and Kathy were to most gracious hosts. Because of the nice weather, and know a heat wave was coming in the following week, we travelled to a few of the parks and conservation areas.

It was great to get out of the city. They have a gorgeous garden in their backyard. Just being able to sit in the peace and quiet, watching the birds in the feeder, was Nirvana.

I mainly stayed in the shade and sat in different spots to enjoy the perspectives.

There is a swing in the back. I tried it with Fiona but she wasn’t having any to the moving back and forth stuff.

When we were indoors, Fiona would jump up and snuggle beside me. Eve preferred this big bed they had on the floor. She could keep an eye on things. One day, we came back from a long hike. Eve and stayed behind on her bed. Because of her deafness, she did not hear us come in and continued sleeping. I gently woke her up as she can get confused if awakened too quickly (like Fiona jumping over her).

They also have a semi-enclosed patio that Eve also enjoyed lounging in. When it was too hot, a fan provided a gentle breeze.

Our first stop was an excellent off-leash park in Georgetown, East Bay Park. There is a large, fenced in area for small dogs and a larger area for the large dogs.

The magic of the Halton Hills and surronding areas is the choice of walking trails. In Milton we went to the Robertson estate. P. L. Robertson designed the Robertson screw driver. He donated his property to the city for a recreational area. His house is there and available to view. I plan to visit it in the Fall. The trail is all shady and goes around in a loop. The manufacturing building is still there but has not been restored

We left Eve to sleep and Fiona had a great time.

We went to a couple of other spots around Crane park near Guelph.

Spot the pug.

Fiona wanted to go over a bridge and follow a trail that was all pine trees and very shady.

As I mentioned, I plan to go back in the Fall and explore more of this wonderful area. Eve will come along. Even at 15, she is gung ho to explore new trails.

Next post will be from the Art Gallery of Ontario and the new Impressionism exhibit.
